Nearly half of Britain’s children have suffered from back pain before the age of 11, according to research by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA).
The BCA survey reported that 45 per cent of 11-year-olds have experienced back pain and 32 per cent have had problems before turning seven.
Experts say that this can be attributed to children’s inactivity, with more than 80 per cent of six to 15-year-olds admitting to spending most of their school holidays playing computer games or watching TV.
Tim Hutchful, spokesman for the BCA, said: "This survey clearly highlights the alarming rate at which back pain is growing within the UK."
He also said that lack of exercise is a child’s worst enemy and that parents should encourage their kids to be active and play outside during half term.
Every parent wants their child to be fit and healthy, which is why Westfield Health provides peace of mind by offering healthcare cover for dependent children.
Westfield’s Good4you Plan enables policyholders to claim back some of the costs of their children’s healthcare, such as optical and dental treatment and diagnostic consultations.
The For Kids add-on benefit to the Foresight and Chamber Plans offers cover for dependent children for everyday healthcare such as dental and optical, physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment and diagnostic consultations.
