Westfield’s winning partnership with the Transplant Games
Westfield Health is continuing its support of the British Transplant Games by becoming the title sponsor of the 2009 Games, which are launched today.
The official launch of the Westfield Health British Transplant Games, which are to be held in Coventry between 30 July and 2 August 2009, takes place at the University of Warwick’s new Indoor Tennis Centre. Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe MP is guest of honour at the launch.
The annual event, managed by Montgomery Leisure Services Ltd on behalf of the charity Transplant Sport UK (TSUK), is one of the biggest multi-sports events in the UK.
This year’s Games were held in Sheffield in August and have been recognised as one of the most successful to date.
The aim of the Games is to raise awareness of organ donation and transplantation, and a staggering 28,751 people to date have signed up to the NHS Organ Donor Register in the Sheffield area since the 2008 Games were launched earlier this year.
There are currently 10,000 people waiting for organ transplants in the UK. Tragically, a severe shortage of donor organs means that as many as one in three people on the waiting list are likely to die before having a life-saving operation.

"The 2008 Games in Sheffield were fantastic and we are proud to be continuing our support in 2009. Westfield Health supports many NHS and medically related charities and I can think of no better use of our money than to help to increase the number of organ donors.
